For some understated elegance, try forcing some Forsythia branches. I cut some branches five days ago and a little yellow is just starting to peek out of the buds! In another couple of days, these branches will be in full flower! To help the buds open, use very warm, but not hot water in the vase to help the branches take up the water. While it will be weeks before forsythia are in full bloom outside, you can enjoy that cheerful yellow a little longer by bringing some branches inside now. Who knew your plants could be used for fresh cut flowers at the beginning of March?
